The Dangerous Ladies are hosting their first ever GARAGE SALE here in Toronto!
Come visit our studio for a fun little cosplay marketplace in Toronto! Together we can get new life out of old costumes, props, accessories, and wigs, help reduce waste, and hang out for an afternoon. It's a great time to do some spring cleaning, grab a great deal on secondhand cosplays, or both.
Tables available by application for those interested in selling. Applications for a table open up on April 7th at 9:00am and close April 14th at noon.
The Garage Sale will be on Sunday, May 4th from 12:00pm - 6:00pm at the Dangerous Ladies studio on 10 Canvarco Road (off of Millwood and Laird)
General Information for Attendees
If you'd like to come by and browse our secondhand cosplay market, we're happy to have you! We have information below so you know what to expect. The market will be primarily cosplay-focused, so please do not come expecting a convention experience (ie artist alley, anime merchandise, etc). Dress to shop; there are plenty of other cosplay events you can wear cosplay to!
- The garage sale will be held both inside and out, so prepare for the weather and bring water if you plan to stay long. Our rain date is May 17th.
- This is our first time hosting the garage sale. We cannot predict how many people will be in attendance or how much money sellers will make.
- It's optional, but we're asking that attendees (both buyers and sellers) pitch in a toonie for snacks. We'll have light treats and drinks while supplies last.
- Parking is first come first serve. There is street parking along Canvarco Road and surrounding side streets. We ask that attendees don't disturb our neighbours and refrain from parking in the studio complex. There is a plaza nearby on Laird and Esandar drive - park there at your own risk. We recommend that attendees make use of the TTC and save parking spots for sellers.
- The 56 bus runs north from Donlands and south from Eglinton, and both stop just outside our street at CANVARCO ROAD. You can also get the 88 to Millwood and Sutherland a short walk away.
- The 100 and 72 stop at Overlea Blvd, with a 10 minute walk north to Canvarco Rd.
- Some sellers may take etransfer or other electronic payment methods, but make sure you bring cash.
- Sellers set their own prices and handle their own financials independently of Dangerous Ladies and are not obligated to haggle with you.
- Shop smart and remember that the majority of the items will have been either worn before or used. Ask questions before buying. Dangerous Ladies staff are not responsible for buyer and seller disputes or issues.
- Please respect the space. We are welcoming you into our shop where we work full time! Do not interfere with any machinery, tools, or workspaces or you will be asked to leave.
- A washroom is available on site - you may not use the washroom to try on cosplay items.
- Please put trash and recycling in the appropriate bins. We have separate, labeled garbage cans for food and drinks.
- Dangerous Ladies Staff will also be selling personal costumes and "seconds" of our kits.
If you are thinking of attending just to shop, that's all you need to know, but please contact us if you have any questions. If you'd like to apply as a seller, please read on.
Information for Cosplay Sellers
Welcome to our cosplay market! If you’d like to have a table with us, we’re offering them free of charge. Each table is 6ft, and can be used by one person, or split between two. Applications are largely first come first serve, but we will be pairing people together who only need a half table.
We expect to have 20 tables, so anywhere between 20 and 40 vendors.
We expect that your table should be at least 80% cosplay items, which is ready to wear costumes, costume parts, wigs, props, costume accessories. Generic items like “Renaissance Faire” goods are included in this! The other 20% can be costume-adjacent, including fabric, crafting supplies, tools, sewing patterns, wig supplies, etc.
If you're not sure, send us an email.
Items that are not allowed:
- Open or used makeup/creams/lotions (factory sealed OK!)
- Contact Lenses (no exceptions for factory sealed)
- Replica firearms (if based off real firearms)
- Shurikens, kunai, nunchucks, butterfly knives (again, if they're real)
- Food and drink
- Open adhesives (including spirit gum)
- Spraypaint or primers
Those who frequent Anime North in Toronto might be familiar with the Nominoichi event; while we're in the same spirit of second-hand goods, we're not looking to create a space for selling anime or general fandom goods. Leave your Fairy Tail DVDs and nendoroids at home. :)
Sellers must be prepared to pack up and take home items that do not sell.
You are not permitted to dump any unsold merchandise into the dumpsters along canvarco road as they are property of the businesses that operate here. Be respectful.
How Much are Tables?
They're Free! We are not charging for tables, but we are asking people to please consider bringing a Toonie to pitch for snacks!
When Should I Come and Set Up?
The garage sale starts at Noon, but you can come anytime between 10:00am or 11:00am to set up.
How do I Apply?
Applications for a table open up on April 7th and close April 14th at noon. If we receive more applicants than we have space for, we'll choose by lottery. The application form will be linked to from this page.
How Big Will My Table Be?
We are anticipating 6ft tables, but will let you know if that changes. Sellers are welcome to use a full or half table, but must be comfortable sharing the other half with a stranger if they choose a half table.
May I Bring a Helper?
Those who request full tables are welcome to bring a helper to their table. Half table sellers may have a helper come to help them set up, but they may not take up space behind the table during selling hours.
What Does Dangerous Ladies Provide?
- We are anticipating 6ft tables, but will let you know if that changes
- Small snacks and light refreshments for shoppers and sellers
- Marketing material for your own social media, so people know where you're selling
- The option to send over some images/lists of your items for sale so we can boost you
- A little placard holder that you can use to hold a list of items you're selling/signage if you wish.
- The chance to buy local and meet some other cosplayers in the area!
Important Notes for Sellers
- Dangerous Ladies is not responsible for your cash, or items. Please keep your money safe and an eye on your table. Try not to leave your table unattended.
- Sellers are encouraged to bring a small cash float
- Sellers should bring something to write with and something to mark down their prices on (post it notes, tape, cards, etc.)
- We are not an event space. We have some chairs around the studio, but cannot guarantee seats for everyone. If you require a chair, consider bringing something from home if you can.
If you have any questions, please send us an email - we're excited to host our first garage sale and hope that you'll consider attending.
