Our Commission Process is Changing!

As you might already be aware, we closed our file and kit commissions until the new year.

Dangerous Ladies has been taking on commissions for the cosplay community for nearly twelve years, and we’ve used pretty much the same commission system that whole time! It’s served us really well, and we’ve made a lot of really incredible projects over the years. Without commissions, we wouldn’t have nearly the catalogue that we do now, and it has been a point of pride to help as many people as possible with their projects.

However, as we have grown, we’ve realized a need to introduce a more sustainable commission system! For context, we’ve usually had anywhere between 20-50 commissions every month, and our 3D modelling work is almost entirely handled exclusively by Jenn, the owner of Dangerous Ladies. In the past two years we’ve brought in some additional help, but Jenn still vets and individually approves every piece of work that goes out to clients, as well as doing the bulk of new products on the website, kit design, and custom modifications. And because commissions have never closed before, our workload is somewhat unpredictable, meaning we are constantly shuffling projects around. It’s a lot! 50 projects a month is no longer a sustainable pace.

Our new commission system aims to streamline custom work. We’ll be taking on projects based on a number of factors:

  1. How many people request the same project, so we can split cost between them and serve a larger number of people,

  2. How much available time we have in the month,

  3. Personal preference; regardless of what series it’s from or how complicated it is, sometimes some projects have a particular challenge or novelty to them that makes them extra motivating for our artists to work on!

We’ve made updates to our commission page now so that you can familiarize yourself with the process when we reopen on January 1st. This also gives everyone time to ask and have their questions answered if anything needs clarification!

You can visit our brand new commission page HERE!

These new guidelines do not impact commissions for finished props or full costumes, as we’ll be relaunching a dedicated page for those services in the new year. Our existing projects are all also slotted into the new schedule already, so that in the coming months, new projects will have shorter turnaround times, faster feedback, and more flexibility.

Thank you, as always, for considering Dangerous Ladies for your custom cosplay needs!
